Seth Thomas Adamantine Chime Adjustment

by Adam Orens

Hi there,

We have a 1900 Seth Thomas Adamtine clock that is working well but a little loud. Can the hammer be moved to adjust the loudness? There is a set screw.

Thank you,

CHECK TO SEE IF THE FELT PAD IS ON THE SURFACE OF THE HAMMER THAT HAS THE SET SCREW IN IT. iF THE FELT IS GONE OR HAS BECOME THIN YOU CAN GO TO WALMART AND GET SMALL FELT STICK ON PADS FOUND IN THE HARDWARE AREA WHERE THE FEET AND COASTERS FOR FURNATURE ARE LOCATED. STICK A NEW ONE ON THE HEAD OF THE HAMMER AND GIVE IT A TRY IF TOO LOUD BEND VERY GENTLY THE HAMMER ROD AWAY FROM THE GONG COIL VERY SLIGHT AMOUNT AT A TIME. yOU MAY HAVE TO TRY ADJUSTING IT SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT JUST RIGHT BUT, NEVER MAKE BIG ADJUSTMENTS (BENDS) IN THE HAMMER ROD. OH YEAH, THE SET SCREW ALLOWS YOU TO MOVE THE HAMNMER HEAD TO WHERE IT MAKES CORRECT FULL CONTACT WITH THE GONG WHEATHER IT BE UP OR DOWN OR MOVING CLOCK WISE OR COUNTER CLOCK WISE.
HOPE THIS HELPS.
