The clock my father brought back from WWII

by Mark Beishir
(Arnold, MO)

I have always been fascinated by this Clock. It is about 14" long and 12" tall. The clock is an extremely detailed replica of an old chalet home or lodge - the reduced scale is amazing! Every plank, step, railing, fire wood under steps, windows it is in complete detail.

The clock itself sits in the center and is wound with a key. A musical chime is also incorporated and is wound from the bottom. The rear of the clock has a 4X6 wood door when opened exposes the clock and chime components. On the door there is an encryption; I can not tell the writing it is in another language.

My Father told me he purchased it in France
we think the clock was made in the 18th century.

No picture at this time clock in storage.

Who is B & W?

Jessica's Junk Store Clock Collection

I love this tall heavy clock. It has a soft sweet tick tock. It is dull gold in color and may be silver underneath, as it has 925. The only other mark is a small oval with B&W inside it. The flowers look like California poppies but I'm not really sure. I want to know who B&W is. I can not find a thing on Google searches. Please inform me.

In the photo, it is the tallest one on the right side.

Woods Clock

by Jodi
(California)

I have a Woods clock (alarm). As of yet I have not been able to find my clock so that I may learn more about it. I will upload a picture of it at a later date.

I can tell you that it is a shelf style clock with gold and blue flowers on the door. It is about 20-25 inches tall with scrolls cut out on the top. The only thing that really concerns me is that the actual face bezel has been cut into for the key wind.

I know that without a picture of the clock it will be difficult to find out any information, but if there is anyone out there with maybe an idea or something I would love to hear from you about this matter. Thanks for your time and consideration on this matter.

Thanks,

Jodi

Wedding gift clock

Figural Clock

Figural Clock

Hi, I have an antique clock that was given to our family in the 1860's or 70's. I'm not sure exactly when. It was a wedding gift given by Count Bernadotte and Deserae of Sweden.

I was told that the Count needed some money and my family loaned them some. In return he gave us this clock as a wedding gift to a Lund in Sweeden. I don't know their first name though. I can't seem to find any markings at all on the clock.

If you can help me in any way be able to prove where this clock came from I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I got this clock at a local auction in a box lot costing me $1.00. The clock ticks for awhile but stops. So, I took it apart and found that someone had messed up the hairspring which caused the problem.

I would like to know the maker and name of this clock so I can purchase the parts to repair it for my modest little clock collection.

Best Wishes,

Need a background check on this clock

Mantel Clock

Mantel Clock

This clock was handed down from my husband's uncle who passed away in 2005. We have serveral of his family clocks. It doesn't have a key, but I was able to use one from another clock we have.

No name anywhere that I can see. I have researched hours on the internet. I did find out the 12cm...has to do with the pendulum. There is a paper sticker that has come off of the bottom. Unreadable.

It must be an 8-day clock because that's about how long it ran before winding down. It does strike on the hour and half-hour. Looses about 10 minutes every hour. Does anyone out there know anything about this clock? I'm attaching a pic. Thank you so much - Jo Ellen

This clock sat in my moms kitchen for many years. I remember my dad bringing it home when I was very small; must have been in the late fifties, but the clock was old then.

It winds from the back and is about 6 inches in height, has no makers name on the movement and the only mark is 2 crossed arrows on the movement.

Would love to know possible age and origin. We lived in Birmingham, England at the time dad aquired it.

Woman at the Well

by Sue
(Fountain Green UT)

I don't know much. She is broken at the ankles - and we will repair her. I bought the clock from a woman who bought it from Alameda Clock Shop.

She said she paid $1200, and I believe her. The marble is red, with nary a flaw. There is a hairline crack in the clock face, which has garlands of flowers between each numeral. The chime is rather tinny sounding right now, but it does keep time. She couldn't find the key, but that shouldn't be too much trouble to replicate.

The back has a filagree pattern into a copper/bronze/door. The legs bolt on.

I certainly am not interested in selling her, but I would like to find out more about her.

I had to hold her together and take a picture - if this doesn't work, we will take another when my husband gets home with my camera.

Grandpa's Clock

by Susan
(Mesa, AZ US)

I found a little old clock after my mother's death recently. I remember this clock from years ago when my grandfather showed it to me.

It is about four inches high, in a little leather and velvet lined box. On the bottom of the clock it says Water...something... The rest of the name is under the winding mechanism and even with three pairs of glasses I cannot read it. I presume this is the name of the manufacturer and a date of 1901.

The clock is very heavy and looks like a little Roman column. The face is plain...just stark white with black numerals. The glass is beveled and very thick. The mainspring seems to have been over-wound, but otherwise this clock is in great condition.

Can you help me identify it? I loved this clock since I was a small child and would love to know more about it.

Napoleon Hat Mantle Clock

Hi,

Purchased a old mantle clock with the faded name of HY-Lee and sons Hull on the front of the dial below the number 12.

On the brass movement inside the oak case is no manufacturers name, but the following stamped into the brass on the left hand side.

D.R.P.A.
D.R.G.M. NO 916380 968155
968156
968157 - 15CM

The 15cm is stamped on the far right.
The clock is a westminster chimes.
It has a 8 day movement in it.
I would be gratful for any infomation as it now sits proudly on my mantle at home after some T.L.C. from myself to bring it back to its former glory !

Many thanks Wal Stewart

Hello all,

I have a clock that I have tried for years to get information on and am still in the dark. This clock (about 5" across) winds and sets from the bottom and keeps time from the top turning and the base staying permanent. It actually keeps rather good time and makes a heck of a racket (which I like) when it is ticking. I am going to try to attach a photo and if you can help in any way (date/type/nickname/value, I would certainly be most appreciative.............

There are no makers marks or dates on this clock!!

Strange Antique Clock Set

by Jason
(Phoenix, AZ)

I have a very unique clock set which I can not identify. It appears to be made entirely of brass and has a pair of matching candelabras. Each candelabra has 4 cantles and is about 2 feet tall.

It is extremely ornate with winged caryatids on each one there are two on each candelabra; there is also a face at the base of the clock which appears to be a demon or greenman. It also has small dragons holding each candelabra.

The details are numerous but not so intricate they are easily identified in some areas. The clock has a large dial with a strange symbol on the face and a demon head above the face with a large spire about it.

It also has 4 forward facing winged caryatids with four large legs holding up the clock. There are no markings and it appears the mechanics unfortunatley have been replaced with something more modern.

There are no markings but it is extremely unusual.

Bronze/Brass Figural Small Clock w/Merimaid

by Betty
(Wake Forest, NC)

I have a bronze/brass figural clock that is 11 3/4" Tall and 4" across the clock face. 6" from tip of front feet one side to other side.

Appears to be a Merimaid looking up at clock with arms stretched out as if she is holding on to the clock at bottom on the actual dial. Clock dial measures 2" across face. Appears to be floral reef around outside of clock face. One single flower in center below Merimaid and one flower on the right foot of clock.

I hope someone can help me identify my clock. I love it and inherited it from my Grandmama. It is precious to me but really would like to know something about its history.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to render.

I am 65 years old and don't know how to load a picture of my clock.

DENICHEUR Par Francois Moreau

DENICHEUR Par Francois Moreau

The clock belonged to my mother. It was bought by her father shortly after his marriage to her mother, when they moved into their first home.

There were originally 2 matching bronze figures which stood either side of the clock on the mantlepiece. But I am not sure what happened to them, as sadly my mother's father died from pneumonia when she was still a very small child. Her mother later re-married. My mother was born in 1914 which helps to date the clock.

There is a signature - F Moreau near the bottom of the bronze. The plaque on the front says DENICHEUR Par Francois Moreau (Mmlle d'Or).

The clock is not working at the moment but I remember that it worked and chimed when I was a child. Would it be worth having it restored? someone painted with gold paint over some of the guilding onthe clock.

Rensie US Globe Clock

by Cynthia Franks
(New York City)

Rensie Globe Clock

Rensie Globe Clock

I got the clock from Dick Button the Ice skating commentator and Olympic champion. I don't know where he got it.

It works, keeps good time and has a pleasing ticking sound and great, but short alarm bell. I've had it for 6 or 7 years and all I know about it is what's written on it. Rensie 7 jewel is on the face and on the back Rensie Watch Comp Germany US Zone.

The green parts on the face glow in the dark, but not for very long. It has an inset in the half of the globe facing the the clock face that other clocks like this are missing. Behind the inset on the underside of the globe there appears to be a fish, looks like a Coy, but I'm not certain. It has the continents on the outside of the globe where others I've seen are blank.

I'd like to know more about it like what year it was made and if this is a clock desirable to collectors. I love clocks a lot, but I feel if this is something a real collector would want, I should part with it. This is the first time in years I've wound it up.

I wish I could collect myself, but I don't have the funds or the space.

I recently received an old clock as part of an estate. I can remember this clock at my grandparents house when I was a child and my father said he remembers it when he was growing up.

I have never owned anything like this before and would like to find out some of its history (who made it and where and when it was made) as well as its proper use, care and maintenance.

The clock runs and keeps accurate time. It strikes with the number of hours on the hour and once every half hour.

I cannot see any markings on the clock except for some numbers stamped (6412) and written (4321) on the bottom and some numbers stamped in the metal of the clockwork (16cm / 163.43).

Thanks in advance.

Mystery Gothic clock

by Ron
(NH)

Mystery clock

Mystery clock

This clock has no markings on the movement, and the paper label that was nailed to the back is gone. There is a partial label inside that is from the merchant who sold these clocks. That's about it.

The "gong" is actually a bell, the size and shape of a bicycle bell - and very annoying. It rings rapidly) The only screws are woods screw that secure the movement to the case. It's more primitive than the 1890's clocks I usually see, so I'm guessing 1870's (but I don't have much of a clue anyway).

There is a metal rod hat you can pull to make the clock strike the hour. It's used to syncronize the gong to the actual hour. This clock rings only on the hour and I haven't had it long enough to see how long it runs but so far it's been 4 days.

Any ideas folks??

Tiny Little Cutie

by Theresa Johnson
(Salisbury, Maryland USA)

Is this a

Is this a "tiny treasure"?

I got this about 10 years ago. The previous owner said that their Great-Grandfather used it as a travel alarm clock.

It looks to be finished in brass, has a delicate patterned face, stylized arms & hands, elaborate roman numerals and a second-hand.

Just below the hands appears the maker's mark "2 Jewels".

At the quarters and covering both hands, appears to be a growth or accumulation of salts or a salt-like substance. I think the same stuff is responsible for the clock not working anymore after 2002 (however, at this very moment, it's TICKING again sporadically). I have not opened nor tampered with it to find out.

On the back, there's the winding mechanism at the bottom, the setting knob at the top and the alarm set- button at the top left.

The only other markings appear on the lower right:

1. delineations with "S" and a "minus" sign under it delineated in a half round over to an "F" with a "plus sign" under it.

2. Centered at the very bottom is a drawing of an alarm bell on the left and what looks like a clock face on the right with an arrow curved through both in the direction of right to left.

The whole clock sits on two ball feet with a triangular shaped wedge of brass to lean back on.

There is rust around the edges (especially on the back) and a good bit of tarnish as expected. The whole clock stands about 3" tall and 2" wide at the widest point.
